Tips
- Platform support varies. If one character doesn't work, try another type.
- Some “special characters” may render as placeholders in a few fonts or systems.
Whitespace Basics
Unicode includes many whitespace and invisible characters beyond the regular keyboard space. Their width, line-breaking behavior, and platform filtering can differ.
- Common examples include SPACE (U+0020), NO-BREAK SPACE (U+00A0), IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE (U+3000), and typography spaces such as thin/hair spaces (U+2000..U+200A).
- ZERO WIDTH SPACE (U+200B) is invisible but takes a position. ZWJ/ZWNJ (U+200D/U+200C) are formatting controls (not strictly whitespace) but are often used as invisible characters.
- Some platforms may strip or normalize invisible characters. If one doesn't work, try another character type.
